Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy
Stronger Muscles. Better Breathing. Healthier Living.
The goals of myofunctional therapy are achieved through structured exercises that improve tone, strength, and coordination of the oral and facial muscles. Barriers can include nasal obstructions, tongue restriction, structural abnormalities, or enlarged tonsils/adenoids. Because structural and functional issues often influence each other, collaboration with other providers is key. A team-based approach ensures all aspects are addressed comprehensively.
What Is Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy?
Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy is a gentle, exercise-based program that retrains the muscles of the face, tongue, mouth, and airway to work the way they should. Instead of just managing symptoms, therapy strengthens and coordinates these muscles to improve breathing, sleep, speech, and overall oral function. Safe and effective for children and adults, it’s a conservative approach that creates lasting change by addressing the root cause.
Who Can Benefit from Therapy?
Myofunctional therapy helps people of all ages by addressing oral and airway challenges—improving sleep, speech, and recovery after a tongue tie.
Children Under the Age of About 3: Children at this stage are generally too young for myofunctional therapy. However, brief programs are available to guide parents in strategies to assist in transitioning away from prolonged pacifier use. We recommend the MyoMunchee device to assist with this and for many other benefits this device promotes
Children: Overcoming oral habits, speech difficulties, and feeding challenges linked to myofunctional disorders. Therapy at this stage focuses on parent training with fun, strategic programs (ages 3–5).
Teens & Adults: Reducing snoring, improving sleep, and supporting healthy breathing, complementing orthodontic and airway-related care (C-PAP).
